Returns policyNintendo 64 non-OEM reproduction Wave Race video game cartridge.
Wave Race 64 is a critically acclaimed 1996 jet ski racing video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. Produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, the game is widely celebrated for its groundbreaking 3D water physics, dynamic wave environments, and responsive controls, which served as a premier showcase for the N64's hardware capabilities.
Gameplay Overview
The core mechanics revolve around navigating a personal watercraft through undulating waves across various exotic, outdoor race tracks.
- The Buoy System: Rather than just driving forward, players must weave through courses by passing specific red and yellow markers (buoys) on the correct side. Successfully passing buoys builds a power meter that grants a speed boost. Missing five buoys in a single race results in disqualification.
- Dynamic Physics: The water is not static; waves dynamically rise, crash, and pull against the watercraft. Players use the analog joystick to shift the rider's body weight, balancing against turbulent waters and making tight, sharp turns.
- Playable Characters: Players can choose from four distinct racers, each offering unique attributes in handling, acceleration, top speed, and collision stability: Ryota Hayami (Japan), Dave Mariner (USA), Ayumi Stewart (USA), and Miles Jeter (Canada).
Game Modes
- Championship: The primary campaign mode where players race against computer-controlled opponents across distinct difficulty circuits (Normal, Hard, and Expert), with increasingly difficult tracks and weather conditions.
- Time Trials: A solo mode focused on mastering individual tracks and setting personal lap records.
- Stunt Mode: A playground mode where players use ramps to perform aerial tricks, flips, and maneuvers to earn high scores before the timer expires.
- Multiplayer: A two-player, horizontal split-screen mode for head-to-head racing competition.
