Nintendo 64 non-OEM reproduction Star Wars: Rogue Squadron video game cartridge.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is a critically acclaimed, fast-paced arcade flight combat action game released for the Nintendo 64 in December 1998. Co-developed by Factor 5 and LucasArts, the game places you directly into the cockpits of the Rebel Alliance's most iconic starfighters to battle the Galactic Empire.

Key Features & Overview

  • The Story: Set primarily between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, the game follows Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles as they form the elite "Rogue Squadron". The narrative spans 16 objective-based missions across various planets, heavily influenced by the Star Wars: X-wing – Rogue Squadron comic book series.
  • Vehicles & Combat: Players can pilot several legendary craft, including the X-Wing, A-Wing, Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, and V-Wing. Combat includes aerial dogfights against Imperial TIE fighters, bombing runs on ground installations, and escort missions.
  • Mission Types: Progression centers on distinct mission archetypes such as Search and Destroy, Reconnaissance, Rescue Operations, and Base/Vehicle Protection. Successfully completing objectives rewards players with bronze, silver, or gold medals, which unlock secret craft (like the Millennium Falcon) and bonus stages.
  • Technical Achievements: Rogue Squadron was famous for pushing the N64's hardware limits. It was one of the very first titles to support the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak, allowing players to upgrade their display resolution from a standard 320x240 to a crisp 640x480 resolution. It also featured an impressive amount of full voice acting and radio chatter for a cartridge-based game.
