Shining Soul II is a dungeon-crawling action role-playing game (ARPG) developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by SEGA, Atlus, and THQ for the Game Boy Advance (GBA). Released in North America in April 2004, it serves as a direct sequel to Shining Soul and is a spin-off of the celebrated Shining universe. Departing from the traditional turn-based tactical gameplay of the Shining Force series, Shining Soul II plays similarly to isometric hack-and-slash games like Diablo, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, or Phantasy Star Online.

Key Features & Gameplay Mechanics

• Eight Playable Classes: Players can choose from a diverse roster of characters including the Warrior, Archer, Sorceress, Dragonolute, Ninja, Brawler, Priestess, and Dark Wizard. Each class features completely distinct weapon specializations, stats, and abilities.
• Real-Time Hack-and-Slash Combat: Combat takes place entirely in real-time. A distinct mechanic is the "Soul" equipment system, which lets you equip a guardian spirit that charges as you defeat enemies and unleashes devastating elemental attacks.
• Dungeon Crawling & Progression: The main campaign spans 10 storyline dungeons supplemented by 8 hidden bonus dungeons filled with rare loot, boss fights, and side quests with NPCs. It also features a New Game+ mode with a cap level of 200.
• Cooperative Multiplayer: The game strongly emphasizes multiplayer, allowing up to four players to connect via GBA Link Cable to conquer dungeons cooperatively, share strategy, and trade items. It also features a Royal Coliseum to challenge computer AI or friends.
• Loot & Customization: The game features deep itemization, including item "sets" that grant additional attribute bonuses when fully collected.

Narrative Setting

The plot takes place centuries after the original game. Following a prolonged era of peace brought about by the defeat of a dark dragon, the world's balance begins to collapse. An alchemist of darkness named Gillespie orchestrates a plot that leads to the disappearance of Princess Camille. Players begin their journey traveling to a grand tournament in the Klantol kingdom, only to be tasked by the King to rescue the princess from a goblin uprising and stop an encroaching darkness.
