Metal Marines — Super Nintendo (Reproduction)

Super Nintendo non-OEM reproduction Metal Marines video game cartridge.

Metal Marines (released in Japan as Militia) is a unique 1993 real-time strategy (RTS) video game developed and published by Namco for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Set in the futuristic year 2117 following a devastating "Antimatter War," the game tasks players with managing resources, building up an island military base, and commanding 50-foot-tall autonomous mecha combat units known as Metal Marines to defeat the villainous Empire.

Gameplay Mechanics

• Base Building: Players manage an isometric island grid to build energy plants, factories, radar stations, and defense systems like anti-aircraft missiles.
• Fog of War: Enemy bases are completely hidden on a separate screen, requiring players to fire scout missiles or drop units to uncover the map.
• Battleship-Style Combat: Offense relies on a mix of precision missile strikes to clear out structures and tactical deployment of giant mechs to target enemy infrastructure.
• Win Condition: Each level hides three underground command centers; destroying all three centers of the opponent secures victory.

Key Features

• Campaign: Features 20 high-stakes combat missions across various islands.
• Autonomous Mechs: Once deployed, the giant mechas fight on their own logic but can be given minor pathing directions.
• Unique Style: Highly praised as a rare, functional console RTS of the 16-bit era, blending elements of SimCity, Command & Conquer, and Battleship.
