Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, is a 2D fighting game developed by Arc System Works and Cavia. It is well-regarded for taking standard DBZ combat into the air, allowing players to fly and maneuver freely in large, 360-degree environments.

Core Gameplay Mechanics

The game focuses on fast-paced, high-energy battles that mirror the anime's style.

  • Combat System: Combines close-range melee attacks with long-range ki blasts.
  • Special Moves: Every character has unique "Certain Kill" abilities (e.g., Goku's Kamehameha or Vegeta's Final Flash).
  • Positional Attacks: The specific super move performed often depends on whether your character is above, below, or level with the opponent.
  • Team Battles: Supports tag-team matches where players can swap between up to three different characters.

Playable Roster

The game features 13 playable characters, each with three distinct "power levels" that can be unlocked to change their stats and appearances:

  • Heroes: Goku, Gohan (Teen & Adult), Piccolo, Krillin, Vegeta, Future Trunks, and Gotenks.
  • Villains: Captain Ginyu, Frieza, Dr. Gero, Android 18, Cell, and Majin Buu.

Key Game Modes

  • Story Mode: Covers the major sagas of Dragon Ball Z (Namek, Android, and Majin Buu). It is famous for its "What If" scenarios, which allow players to explore alternate timelines—such as Krillin becoming the hero who defeats Cell.
  • Z Battle Mode: A survival-style mode where players fight 8 consecutive enemies to earn rankings and points.
  • Challenge Mode: Pits you against pre-set enemy teams with a restricted character level limit.
  • Link VS Mode: Allows two players to battle each other using a GBA Link Cable.
