Gameboy Advance non-OEM reproduction Car Battler Joe video game cartridge. Game cartridge comes with a plastic protective case.
Car Battler Joe is a unique 2001 action role-playing and vehicular combat game developed by Ancient and published by Natsume for the Game Boy Advance. Often described as a blend of Mad Max, Pokémon, and Super Mario Kart, the game merges top-down RPG exploration with intense, 3/4-angled overhead car battles.
The Plot
The game is set in a somewhat post-apocalyptic future in the world of Galacia, where "car battling" is both the ultimate televised sport and a primary livelihood. You play as Joe, a 16-year-old boy whose legendary car-battler father disappeared years prior. On his birthday, Joe receives a talking robot companion called a G-com (which handles his weapon systems) and an old family vehicle. Joe embarks on a dangerous quest across the wastelands, taking on courier jobs, transporting cargo, and entering fighting tournaments to unravel the mystery of his missing father.
Gameplay & Features
- Action RPG Hybrid: While players explore towns and talk to NPCs from a classic 16-bit top-down RPG perspective, traveling between towns shifts into active driving combat.
- Mode 7 Style Combat: The combat sequences use an angled overhead scaling technique reminiscent of the Super NES's famous "Mode 7" graphics, keeping the action dynamic and fast-paced.
- Deep Customization: The game boasts over 3 million part combinations. Players collect junk, parts, and cash from scrap or completed missions to upgrade their car's chassis, engine, overdrive functions (like shields or jumping), and weaponry—including machine guns, lasers, saw blades, and bombs.
- Multiplayer Mode: The game supports up to four players via the GBA link cable for head-to-head vehicular deathmatches, provided each player has a cartridge.
